Clara Barcelo's Story

Born in the 1980s, in the vibrant heart of Argentina, Clara Barcelo was destined for creativity. The eldest of five siblings, Clara’s world was woven with color and texture from the very beginning. Her parents, initially immersed in chocolate manufacturing, pivoted when her mother’s entrepreneurial spirit took over. Leaving behind the chocolate factory, Clara’s mother began a small business knitting sweaters, with young Clara right by her side. She often jokes that she “grew up among fabrics,” a nod to the countless hours spent surrounded by wool and threads, sparking her early passion for design.

Even as a child, Clara’s independent streak was evident. At just five years old, she boldly decided to become a vegetarian-a choice inspired by a revelation at her grandparents' house, where she learned the true origins of her favorite chicken dish. This decision, emblematic of her strong-willed nature, set the tone for a life of purposeful choices. As she grew older, Clara’s exposure to the world of design deepened. When her mother expanded into children’s clothing and opened a boutique near their home called "Marambá," Clara was captivated. She eagerly joined her mother on trips to select fabrics, visited manufacturers, and absorbed the intricacies of design and production. It was in this small but bustling boutique that Clara’s passion for fashion truly ignited.

By thirteen, Clara wasn’t just observing-she was creating. She learned to sew and began transforming old garments into her own unique designs. Her path seemed clear, and after finishing school, she enrolled in Fashion Design at the Universidad de Buenos Aires. But the road wasn’t always smooth. Clara’s first year at university was tough, with a professor’s harsh critique nearly derailing her dreams. Yet, true to her character, Clara refused to give up. She pressed on, determined to prove herself and succeed in the world of fashion.

At nineteen, Clara landed a job as a design assistant at a shoe brand, where she discovered her true calling. The magic of shoe manufacturing captivated her-she spent hours in the factory, mesmerized by the artistry of leather cutting and sewing. After two years of immersing herself in this craft, Clara knew it was time to strike out on her own.

From Generala to Clara Barcelo

Her first venture, a swimsuit brand called "Generala," gained traction on Facebook. However, the challenges of a seasonal business pushed Clara to innovate. In 2012, a chance request led her to design a unique sandal featuring ten different leathers. The sandals were a sensation, and Clara knew she had found her niche. She rebranded her business under her own name, and the "Clara Barcelo" brand was born.

Clara’s brand grew rapidly

As orders poured in, Clara’s brand grew rapidly. She opened her first store in San Isidro, followed by another in Recoleta, and soon realized she needed a partner to help manage the expanding business. Enter Tomás, Clara’s life and business partner. With Tomás handling operations, the duo propelled the brand to new heights.
